THE PARISH OF MARNOCH
The parish takes its name from St Marnan, a Celtic missionary who, in the early 7th Century, established a base on the banks of the River Deveron near what is now Bridge of Marnoch. |
Since then, there has always been a church, the most recent (not including those within the Burgh of Aberchirder) having been built on Cairnhill in 1792. |

For over 1000 years life in the parish was based purely on farming.

There were no villages as such, just small 'ferm touns' – a few cottages surrounded by land cultivated by the tenants of the various landowners.
