This sugar shaker, which is about 13 cm high, was produced by china manufacturers Arkinstall and Sons (Ltd) who operated between 1904 and 1924 at the Trent Bridge Pottery (subsequently Arcadian Works) at Stoke-on-Trent.  This firm was taken over by Robinson & Leadbeater in 1908 but continued to trade under the name Arkinstall. The firm’s mark appears on the bottom of the piece.  For history and information about Stoke potteries click here.

The imitation heraldic design includes the cross used as a crest by the Town Council of the Burgh of Aberchirder, and which is now incorporated in the Aberchirder Coat of Arms.
