CHRISTMAS LIGHTS COLLECTIONS
|
Aberchirder's festive lights are on again thanks to the efforts of a range of volunteers and fundraisers. The lights are bought, owned, maintained by the Community Association which relies entirely on local fundraising throughout the year. This is boosted by collections taken in three local premises.
Collection containers were emptied in the Bowling Club and a total of £242
was raised via these collections. The total comprised, £161 from The
Bowling Club, £44 from the Co-op and £37 from the Commercial Hotel.
The Bowling Club's Secretary Charlie Hendry and Stewardess Jennifer
Chalmers also ran a "Guess How Much is in the Bottle" competition - won by
Ian Milne - which added a further £42 to the total. |

Counting the collection are above from left: Donald McKay (Association Chairman), Forbes Mackie (Volunteer), Irene Youngson (Co-op), Charlie Hendry (ABC), Julie Bell (Commercial Hotel), Brian King (Association Treasurer). The collections have been a much needed boost towards meeting the cost of the lights, especially as several damaged and worn out ones will have to be replaced next year at a cost of over £1000. Thanks go to the community spirited people who raise money and also the ones who do the hard work of putting up and taking down the lights and the tree. Association Committee member Stephen Forrest and associate helpers Willie Bremner and Duncan Robb were joined by three forklift drivers – Bill Grant, Forbes Mackie and Graham Robertson – without whom the lights could not have been erected. Thanks also go to local joiner Alistair Duncan who provides storage space throughout the year. The lights and Christmas tree will remain in place until Sunday 7 January, when volunteers will again be required. Anyone who would like to help should contact Stephen Forrest on (01466) 780969. |
