Local Government Centralisation

In 1975, after eighty-six years of existence, Aberchirder Town Council – along with Banff County Council – was abolished as part of a national reorganisation of local government which created a two-tier system of Regions and Districts. Aberchirder thus became one of many small settlements which lost much of their identity in Banff & Buchan District, one of six in the greater whole of Grampian Region.
