Wartime

During the 20th Century the people of Aberchirder & Marnoch experienced life – and death – in two world wars. This part of the Virtual Museum reflects the relative amounts of information available, with very little on World War One (1914-1918) compared to World War Two (1939-1945).

The first section gives a brief account of how Aberchirder and district were affected by World War One, based on items from the Banffshire Journal and a valuable document provided by James Hay.

The remaining sections deal with the Home Front in World War Two. This is not in any way an attempt at a complete account of how the Aberchirder area was affected by World War Two. It is simply a collection of some aspects, based on reminiscences given by Charlie Anderson, Jack Stewart and others, together with information taken from school logs and the minutes of the Town Council, the Press & Journal, Banffshire Journal and various websites.
