WOODWORKER MAKES TO ORDER

A few sample toys

Gordon George has been interested in working with wood since his school days.  His high quality workmanship is well known in the area and there is nothing Gordon likes better than designing and making all sorts of items from start to finish.  As well as toys, children's play equipment and other items such as you can see here, he makes items of furniture and equipment to assist elderly or disabled people.

Although it is not obvious from his accent, Gordon was born in Elgin.  At the age of 17 he moved to Watford, North London to work as a butcher in Sainsbury's.  He met his wife Janet in Watford and they returned to Elgin to marry before moving to Wigtown where again Gordon worked as a butcher.  In the early 60's he took up his interest in woodworking again, making toys for their family of 2 sons and a daughter.

In 1972, Gordon and family moved to Ordiquhill then in 1974 they moved to a house in Aberchirder.  Gordon was at this time working with Alistair Gregor the butcher in The Square.  In 1989, with his love of woodworking, he started working with the Occupational Therapy section of the District Council as a Technician making items for the elderly and those with physical difficulties.

Putting the finishing touches to a craft box

Having retired in 1999, Gordon is still busy making new toys for his 5 grandchildren as well as many other household items.  He also does voluntary work for REMAP making things you cannot buy elsewhere.

Gordon takes orders for wooden toys, craft or tool boxes, pieces of furniture and other household or small garden items.  He will also carry out minor repairs to furniture.

If you want something made, he can work from a drawing, photograph or your ideas and measurements.

You can contact him on 01466 780578
