Quality Napkins

Quality Napkins
A new retail business with a shop and showroom is opening at 53 Main Street, Aberchirder.  'Quality Napkins' is to be selling tableware and associated supplies to cater for all occasions.

Managing Director Lynn Whiteside and Sales and Services Manager John Hall have extensive knowledge and experience both in the supply and catering business.  Their existing wholesale business, Janitorial Supplies Ltd., was established in 2003 and previously operated from Drumblade and Aberdeen.  They have now moved that company to Aberchirder, operating from 39 North Street - sharing premises with Grampian MacLennans transport.

John and Lynn are to be married on 7th July in Jamaica where John has other existing business interests.

The retail shop and showroom will be officially opened by Councillor John Cox on Saturday 2nd June at 11am.

Scouts all over the UK made camp to celebrate the fact that 100 years ago Baden Powell took boys to Brownsea Island for the first ever scout camp.  Foggie Cubs Scott Duguid, Aidan Stewart, Alexander Bowie and Nathan Ross joined Cornhill Cubs and Scouts at camp on Friday 25th May then on Saturday, Beavers from both village areas also spent time at the Banff & Buchan Centenary Camp at Aden Country Park.

There were lots of activities and challenges for all the children to take part in, including of course the favourite camp fires and sing songs.

Left:  Foggie girls and Young Leaders at Cornhill,   Kathryn Hay and Andrea Fowlie took part in the challenge to collect fir cones and make the scout badge.

Each section within each group were asked to make a flag for the special event.

The Foggie boys had a wonderful time and although the Friday night was very cold, the weather improved on Saturday to allow all events to be enjoyed.

Saturday morning activities took the form of a Mini Highland Games.

The fashion show held by St Marnans Sports Club in the school hall on 9th May proved a great success.  The show, courtesy of Mckays of Banff, had 42 adults and children from the Sports Club acting as models.

Refreshments for the event were donated by the local Co-op and the evening event made an overall profit of £670.33.

Tree Climbing

Guide Badge

The 1st Aberchirder Girl Guides spent the weekend of 18/20 May at PGL Dalguise near Blairgowrie taking part in outdoor activities.

9 Guides along with leader Elaine Robertson and Jan Skyner all had great fun taking part in survival skills, wall climbing, zip wire and trapeze (about 30ft up a tree!), quad bike riding and raft building.

They all stayed in the main house and the weekend was rounded off with an assault course and a mud fight.

AGM 2007

It’s time for the AGM once again. It will be held in the Church Hall on Wednesday 20 June at 7:30 pm.

The Community Council is still short of one member, so if you feel you have a little time and some ideas to contribute, please let us know.

The Community Council is used by Aberdeenshire Council, Police, NHS and other agencies as the official voice of our community, so it’s important that its members reflect local ideas and opinions.

To volunteer to become a member, or find out more about what the Community Council does, please contact Margaret McKay on 780208.

The Community Council looks forward to working with them for the benefit of Aberchirder and District.

Foggie Gala

The annual Gala will be held in McRobert Park on Sunday 3 June. The major event as ever is the 5-a-side football competition starting around 11 am and there will be the usual stalls run by local groups.

On the food and drink front, the burger stall and teas in the pavilion will be in action together with soft drinks and crisps from stalls.

Other attractions this year will be displays by
Grampian Fire and Rescue Service
Aberdeenshire’s Waste Aware campaign.

Come along and enjoy a good afternoon’s entertainment and support your local organisations at the same time!

Volunteers are needed to help with putting up stalls on Saturday evening and taking them down after the Gala on Sunday afternoon. If you can spare an hour either day (or both!) please contact Linda Farquhar on 780512

Festive Lights

Jim Wood has very kindly volunteered to do a 20-mile sponsored walk in September to raise money for our festive lights. Sponsor forms will be available soon in shops and pubs.  If you would like to support Jim and the community, take a form for friends and neighbours to fill up.  He would be very grateful.
