Proposed Twinning of Aberchirder with Laveissière, France

The Auld Alliance between the two countries of Scotland and France has recently been strengthened with the establishment of a twinning link between Foggie and Laveissière in France.  Laveissière is a small town with a population of around 600.  It is situated in the Cantal département (district) which is in the Auvergne region in Central France.  The town is a destination for many tourists during the summer as well as in winter for skiers.  The mountains around Laveissière are volcanic thus it's inclusion in "le parc des volcans" (volcano park).  Fishing is also available in the River Allagnon.  Buildings in Laveissière are built with the local stone and slate which is also a feature of other towns in the region.
Laveissière, slightly smaller than Foggie, still has a good range of amenities such as a nursery and primary school where pupils learn English from the age of eight.  There is also a good selection of hotels, restaurants and shops.

This link was established in Spring 2003 by Mrs Nancy McKidd, Chair of the Twinning Committee.  The main aim of this link is not only to promote this small corner of Banffshire to French tourists thinking of holidaying in Scotland, but also to enable Foggie residents to gain an insight into the life and culture across the Channel and perhaps even encourage them to visit France.

If you would  like to become  involved with this project, you can contact either Mrs Nancy McKidd on 01466 780255 or the secretary of the committee, Mr David West on 01466 780820.  If you wish to find out more about your twin town you can contact Mrs Jennifer Meyniel directly on 0033 471 200442.  She is Scottish so don't worry about language or dialect.
