ABERCHIRDER NURSERY SAY THANK YOU

Aberchirder School Nursery held their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday 24th. November 2012. The event was a roaring success, with a raffle, face painting, a visit from Santa, various craft stalls and the Nursery children's own work on sale. Refreshments were provided in the school canteen and a photographer was on hand to capture children's visits to Santa's grotto. The Fayre raised over £1,100 which will go towards trips and resources for the Nursery. A small army of volunteers - made up of parents and other family members, Nursery staff and businesses in and around Foggie helped to plan and support the event and the Nursery are extremely grateful for their help.

Nursery Teacher Mr Howes has his nails painted with reindeer and unknown to him, the mums made a donation of £27 after he agreed to have it done.

Sales went extremely well thanks to the support of local people, friends and relatives of the school children.

ANOTHER TITLE FOR SHEEP SHEARING CHAMPION

There's nothing woolly about Gavin Mutch when it comes to shearing sheep. World Champion Gavin, formerly of Woodside, Mosscoral, Forgue near Aberchirder, and now resident in New Zealand, has received Lister’s Shearing Personality of the Year award.

He will receive the accolade from the British Isles Shearing Competition Association (BISCA).  As Gavin currently lives in New Zealand, it was decided to present him with the award at next year’s Royal Highland Show in June.

Gavin is the current world champion after winning the individual title in March 2012 in Masterton, New Zealand. He is only the second British shearer to win the title, the other being fellow Scot Tom Wilson back in 1984. The next world championship will be held in Ireland in 2014.

Gavin Farms 1500 ewes and 80 cows at this home in Taranaki in the west of New Zealand's North Island where he lives with his wife Pip.

NEW BUSINESS PROPOSED FOR FOGGIE

People in and around Aberchirder may soon be ordering an oriental meal without having to travel far. Proposals have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council for Planning and Building Warrant consents for a Chinese Takeaway shop in the village.

Proposals are for the change of use of the property at 18 The Square, Aberchirder, to a hot food takeaway. The premises were formerly occupied by a 'Spar' food and general merchant's shop.

Should this development proceed, it will bring another business into the area and give residents a further choice of ready meals and should complement the present fish and chip shop.
