In 1975, as part of local government reorganisation, Aberchirder’s Town Council was abolished. In its place a community council was set up to pass on local opinions to the new regional and district councils based in Aberdeen and Banff, but it was never accepted as a satisfactory replacement. However, it was responsible for the creation of the Community Association.

In 1995 the community council called a meeting to press Aberdeenshire Council to carry out improvements to football facilities at McRobert Park.  A committee was formed to build a community pavilion, and in order to make fundraising easier, the group became a Community Association with charitable status which would act as an umbrella for, and try to foster a spirit of cooperation among, local groups. Around this time a Community Plan was produced listing environmental and other improvements local people wanted, and the pavilion project became part of this plan.
