Changes In Responsibilities – 1929

Changes to local government in 1929 led to the abolition of the Banffshire Commissioners of Supply and the Marnoch Parish Council. Aberchirder Town Council now became responsible for housing, lighting and drainage with Banff County Council administering police, education, public health and public assistance (as the poor law now became)

In early 1930s Frank Anderson’s shop at 132 Main Street became the Town Council office (he continued to live in the house part of the property). The office was used for council meetings but also as the burgh court and unemployment office.
